Copy edited. There isn't any need to declare a question.

Some OKAD information. Some of the annual "Fireside chats" contain detailed information about the design considerations for the VLSI tool (early 2010s?) .

Oct 27, 2022 at 13:12 | comment | added | piiperi Reinstate Monica | A game engine could be said to be structured around something like "while(running) { handle_input(); draw_frame(); }" and starting from scratch and not knowing anything about the subject, it might take 2 years to come up with those lines.
Oct 27, 2022 at 12:21 | comment | added | Steve | I suspect what is meant by "CAD" isn't how we know such applications today, but as something that generated the raw data for a CNC machine. And I suspect the "5 lines" were the core of a high-level, domain-specific language. I can believe that a 5-line algorithm involved 2 years of work.

Oct 27, 2022 at 12:10 | comment | added | the busybee | Since Forth most of the time organizes its source on 64x16 screens, 5 lines might have at most 320 characters. However, these lines might only be the main word ("word" is the technical term for something known as function or method in other programming languages) of the program.

Oct 27, 2022 at 11:47 | comment | added | Tommylee2k | many programming languages allow as many commands on a single line as desired. "in just 5 lines" doesn't mean anything, except that this guy obviously didn't like proper code formatting
