Dec 13, 2023 at 21:02 | comment | added | kopaka | I've found a general document for Apple pinouts of that era, of which I'm not sure if it contains all informations required: applerepairmanuals.com/the_manuals_are_in_here/… (page 17, External Video Connector: 15-Pin). The same icon (a screen with pipes left and right) is next to both the PC output and the monitor input. Not sure if based on that fact (and your linked discussions) it is safe to assume the pins are wired straight through.
Dec 13, 2023 at 20:08 | comment | added | Mark Ransom | @PeterGreen for serial applications over DB-25 connectors, even simple connections that were mostly straight-through often needed some tweaks to work properly. Patch boxes were popular for a reason.
Dec 13, 2023 at 17:49 | comment | added | Peter Green | I know that argument, I could equally argue back that 8P8C just says the number of positions and contacts and tells us nothing about what family of connectors is in use (I've certainly seen the xPxC terminology used in reference to BT style connectors as well).
Dec 13, 2023 at 17:45 | comment | added | Justme | Actually, 8P8C modular jack is the real and correct name of the connector used for Ethernet. The RJ refers to telecom wiring standards of Registered Jacks, such as RJ11 used for telephones. The only problem is, there is no such thing as RJ45 in the standard.
Dec 13, 2023 at 17:09 | comment | added | Peter Green | AIUI serial modems usually used straight through male to female cables. Connecting two PCs without required a female to female "null modem" cable. but I'm sure I've also come across hardware combinations that needed a male to female crossover cable or a female to female straight through.
Dec 13, 2023 at 16:58 | comment | added | scruss | As far as serial cables are concerned, D sub cables tend not to be wired straight through.
