I'm building an arcade cabinet, and finding one part of the control panel to be very frustrating: the joystick rod is too long and so it can move in and out of the panel.

The sticks that I bought only had 2 positions for the clamp, one of them far too short for me to use. I wouldn't mind the sticks going in and out of the panel much, but when its sunk into the panel sometimes the piece to activate the switches falls with it and doesn't hit the buttons, so you need to keep the stick held up while playing.

I was going to try to throw some more washers on it, but the clamp is stuck on pretty hard so if anyone has a better suggestion please let me know!

I'm not sure how this is on-topic. Sure, it's about a DIY arcade game, but any advice would be specific to this case, and not specific to anything that might use a joystick now or in the past. – jdv Nov 8 at 16:35
  • I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who's run into this issue. A solution could help someone in the future. – SirDeimos Nov 8 at 16:55

Yes, but this is a purely mechanical question that literally applies to any device that can be installed at a specific height. – jdv Nov 8 at 17:00
  • Really not about old computers – Mark Williams Nov 8 at 23:40
  • Yeah, your joystick shouldn't go in and out, unless real aracade game joysticks do. Unless it's defective product, this is a mechanical fitment issue, more a carpenter's task than a programmer's. What would Jesus do? (He was a carpenter) – Harper 2 days ago
