Could today's flash memory be used instead of RAM in 1980s 8 bit machines?
Bandwidth is meaningless for random access, you need to look at IOPS which is still in tens or hundreds of thousands for flash. RAM could achieve MHz rates already in the 1980s.

What is the most accurate way to map 6-bit VGA palette to 8-bit?
I'm not sure how a brightness increase of 1.6% qualifies as "much better". I would call it insignificant, especially considering you have to give up linearity to achieve it.

Why was USB 1.0 incredibly slow even for its time?
Comparing USB to Ethernet would make sense if there were Ethernet mice and keyboards.

Why was the 6809 so expensive?
Absolutely. I bet an iPhone doesn't have 8 times more transistors than a $100 generic Android phone either.

Why did computers use a power supply with a socket?
@vidarlo large production volume and essentially stationary life apply to computers as well.

Why did computers use a power supply with a socket?
@vidarlo I doubt a washing machine or a fridge are in need of ESD protection. Rather, the manufacturer doesn't want to take chances that the ground pin makes poor contact for some reason.

@vidarlo Relying on the plug for grounding is not as safe as having the ground attached with a screw. There are even C13 cables with a separate ground wire.
