At a young age I was taking things apart to see how they worked. As time went on I got better at putting them back together in a working state. My then nearly new $150 Atari 2600 was an early success, but it wasn't broken to begin with. My parents nearly had a heart attack, there was much yelling.
In High School it was early Apple][ and IBM Pieces(PS/2), as well as anything in the AV club room.
I started my IT career in a White-box System Builder shop in the early 90's after working for the the University doing similar work. Sun timeshares, 68030, 68040 and early PPC Mac's, Netware 3, and early 486 PC's running Windows 3.11 on in college. Beta testing for win95 for the White-box (everything was really beige!).
From college time I am acquainted with the DEC LUG-NUT (Local not Linux) owner of working early PDP systems (8, 8e, 11, and 12).
